About the Park

Railroad Park is a 19 acre green space in downtown Birmingham that celebrates the industrial and artistic heritage of our great city. Situated along 1st Avenue South, between 14th and 18th Streets, the park is a joint effort between the City of Birmingham and the Railroad Park Foundation. Hailed as "Birmingham's Living Room," Railroad Park provides a historically rich venue for local recreation, family activities, concerts, and cultural events, while connecting Birmingham's downtown area with Southside and UAB's campus.

Mystical Arts of Tibet: Mandala Sand Painting Exhibition, Construction and Viewing - 17th Street Plaza Section A - 10:00 AM to 7:00 PMIn honor of the Dalai Lama’s visit to Birmingham, the Tibetan monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery will be creating a Mandala Sand Painting at Railroad Park. A Mandala is a symbolic representation of an enlightened world created to promote peace & healing. Millions of grains of colored sand will be painstakingly poured to create this sacred cosmogram.

A Mandala is a symbolic representation of an enlightened world created to promote peace & healing. Millions of grains of colored sand will be painstakingly poured to create this sacred cosmogram. This live exhibition will conclude with a Closing Ceremony when the Mandala will be dismantled.

Crunk Fitness - 17th Street Plaza Section B - 6:00 PM to 7:00 PMCrunk Fitness is a fun, high-energy, hip-hop dance workout for all levels. It involves a combination of basic aerobics movements and funky hip-hop dance moves, broken down so anyone can do it. You can tone up-lose weight, transform your body, and have a blast! Please arrive 15 minutes early to register. You will be required to sign-in each time you participate in this class.
