Attractions
Based on a master plan developed by Tom Leader Studio, a landscape design company based in San Francisco, Railroad Park will offer numerous attractions for Birmingham residents.
General Family Activities - the park's expansive 10 acres of open lawn, walking trails, lake, and shaded pavilions will provide space for Birmingham families to enjoy the newly created green space in the middle of the city.
Entertainment Venues - the open-air performance amphitheater will provide shade and seating space for thousands, with a generous stage area and sloped lawn surrounding, to accommodate very large events. Additional, smaller staging areas, such as a terraced Greek theater space, can also house smaller performances.
Restaurant & Shopping - near the amphitheater a restaurant will be built on the shores of the lake for a unique dining experience. Multiple shopping kiosks will be made available as well at predetermined areas bounding the park.
Health & Wellness - the park's 10-acre open lawn will provide space for numerous casual sports activities. A scenic, elevated walkway - the Railtrail - will extend the length of the park from the amphitheater to the plaza at 14th Street surrounded by scenic trees and natural beauty.
Natural Beauty - the park's landscaping will feature numerous trees, vegetation and other natural elements to create a pleasing sanctuary between downtown and Birmingham's South Side. The artificial lake will provide boating activities and further enhance the tranquil feel of open space and a bio-filtration wetlands area will help filter rainwater and other drainage from the park and the surrounding areas.
