About Us
The Railroad Park is leased from the City of Birmingham and is managed by the Railroad Park Foundation, formerly Friends of the Railroad District. The Park will be built on a 8-block area of downtown Birmingham, along 1st Avenue South between 14th and 18th Streets.
The Railroad Park Foundation is a collaboration of public and private community leaders, who share the stated purpose of nurturing and preserving the cultural heritage of the railroad in Birmingham for the purpose of civic growth and revitalization.
The Railroad Park is the first of a series of parks planned for the Railroad District, which extends along the railroad tracks from the site of the former Alice Furnaces just west of I-65 and Sloss Furnaces to the east. Future plans include development throughout the entire Railroad District.
The Railroad Park Foundation is a tax-exempt foundation, and is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)3 organization.
